So I've been reading everyone's blogs and I saw Kim's Quote of the Day posts and I love that. I love finding words that can lift you up and help you through a hard situation or even just a long day. Anyways, I thought that I would talk about probably my favorite quote that I read when I'm feeling discouraged or lost. It's from One Tree Hill and I just related to it so much when I heard it and it has inspired me ever since...
"I've come to the conclusion that if having things turn out the way you wanted them to is a measure of a successful life, then some would say I'm a failure. The important thing is not to be bitter over life's disappointments. Learn to let go of the past. And recognize that every day won't be sunny, and when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair, remember it's only in the black of night you see the stars. And those stars will lead you back home. So don't be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble and fall, cause most of the time, the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you'll get everything you wish for. Maybe you'll get more than you ever could have imagined. Who knows where life will take you. The road is long and in the end, the journey is the destination. "
I love it because it reminds me that, try as we might, we can't predict the future and we shouldn't try. What kind of life would that be if there were no surprises? We would never have the courage to challenge ourselves because we would know what the person we were and wouldn't bother trying to change and better ourselves. I also like be reminded that even in my darkest hours, when it seems I am falling apart, I can find hope and know that I'm going to be alright. I tend to over-analyze everything to the point where my life is overwhelmed with stress but then I read this and I realize that it's okay to let myself be vulnerable and not focus on what bad could potentially happen, but instead to just live life to the fullest and have no regrets for opportunities I missed just because I was scared. I printed a tiny copy of this and put it in my wallet to remind myself no matter where I am, that this is my life-an it's up to me to live it.
I also keep a small copy of this in there too to remind myself that while I'm never alone in the world, I should always be myself and take a stand against those that try to change who I am and to be the best version of myself...

Conformity is so overrated.
"This is how the past sticks to you.
There was a time you had inspiration,
A recipe for your life,
You were gliding over your youth.
All the ashes you spread,
All the love that you give,
That is who you are, how hard you break
For the love you take.
All the fires you burn
To dry oceans of hurt,
All the time you’ve wasted in vain,
And you’re standing still.
You are tired and you’re losing will.
You’ve got so much time to kill;
You’ve been running just to stand still."
The song may not be fitting to the rest of this post exactly, but to me, on the way home, it motivated me to stop waiting for life to happen and instead, to make it happen.

You are so wonderful Becca! I really love that quote too ... it's posted on the wall by my desk at work ... too funny! OTH had a lot of quotes that really inspired me and changed my way of thinking.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job in Megan Mary's video ~ loved the viking hat! Too many people are afraid to be themselves, too afraid to step outside of the circle and do something original, too afraid to be different.
I'm glad that you stand out! You remind me of myself at your age ... and it makes me happy!
Smiles,
Angie
