Country Roads, Take Me Home...To The Place Where I Belong...

*cue Home by Foo Fighters....

"I like to make this turn after three months being away and know that in just a few minutes, I'll be there."
"To see your awesome sister?"
(laughs) "Something like that."

Have you ever noticed that the simplest conversations usually have to deepest meanings? The exert above was me and my brother on our way home from the video store. Now, you have to understand when you go into town, there are several routes you can take to get back home. One is down the main highway, one is down the road with the high school, and the other, well it's just "our road." It's pretty obscure, most people don't even know about it around here, but it's our favorite. It's just a road, but it makes you appreciate, well, it makes you appreciate everything. For one thing, police men have yet to patrol it so it's our little Audobon, but mainly it's for the views. It's your typical country road, but when you drive it several hundred times a year, everything takes on a meaning. There's the tree that i saw a bald eagle in every day for three months when i was 10. There's the mailbox i hit on my first driving lesson with my dad. There's also a million spots where people have hit darling deer. We're talking lots of deer-like Santa lets them out to run on that road. For that reason, we don't drive it at night much. And then there's the big curve you have to take to turn on it. Tonight, my brother made the curve. We just drove in silence, a muffled Oasis song playing in the background and our memories together passing around us. It's been a hard road for us and for our whole family, but much like our favorite country road, it's old and it's well-worn, but it's foundation is strong and unbreakable.

" Echoes and silence
Patience and grace
All of these moments
I'll never replace
No fear of my heart
Absence of faith
All I want is to be home"

  1. Great post! It really made me go "awww" lol.

I have a spot like that back in my hometown - this one spot on the beach that no one goes to. it's a great place to go at night with just an ipod or to listen to the water <3

btw, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is one of favorite albums ever.
