Believing in Love

cue "Shattered" by Trading Yesterday

I believe in love. I believe in true love. Epic love and spell-bounding love, I'm not so sure about, but I believe in the simple act of loving someone with all of your heart. Don't tell me it can't me done. Don't throw marriage statistics at me and try to prove me that I'm wrong. I have reason to believe. All the reason I need. When I look into the eyes of my parents and my grandparents, and in the eyes of those that have lost their someone- I believe in love.
I found these poems to be inspiring on love. These men had true love and knew what it meant. So many of us don't. So many of us give-up without trying. We forget to love through the fighting. We try and find reasons to be mad at each other, rather than finding the strength to forgive. Love is so simple. It's so pure. It's finding and keeping that love and remembering it for how amazing it is that's hard. Well, once again, here are the poems that encourage me to keep believing...

Unending Love
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times…
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
My spellbound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs,
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms,
In life after life, in age after age, forever.

Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, it's age-old pain,
It's ancient tale of being apart or together.
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge,
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.

You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount.
At the heart of time, love of one for another.
We have played along side millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of every poet past and forever.

-Rabindranath Tagore

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

-e e cummings

"All this time spent in vain
Wasted years
Wasted gain
All is lost
Hope remains
And this war's not over

Theres a light
Theres the sun
Taking all the shattered ones
To the place we belong
And his love will conquer all"

  1. Lovely lovely poems Becca. I love the e.e.cummings poem. I remember it from "In Her Shoes" the book - then the movie. And the first poem in this group, reminded me of the book "The Time Travelor's Wife".

Thank you so much for sharing. :)
