Albert Schweitzer: Finding Inspiration.

During class, I try to pay attention. Okay, so I try to attempt to pay attention. Usually though, I wind up reverting back to one of my oddest talents, I'd guess you call it- quoting. I sit in my desk and reflect on the words of other that touch me. Sometimes, I can spend days working on "drawing" one person's words.
While I believe fully in finding your own voice, I also believe that finding inspiration from words that other people have spoken or written, words that can completely relate to how you are feeling or have the ability to change your life and make you a a better person through them, can be just as relevant and amazing.
To those that have read any of my blogs, you've noticed my quote fetish. I find so much peace and happiness when finding new quotes, and I try to incorporate that feeling into my posts.
Well, last week I received one of those unexpected surprises (is that an oxymoron?) that just make life exciting. I had ordered my SoGoPro shirt, which was awesome mind you, but along with it was, to my grateful surprise, a quote! The always fantastic Hilarie Burton had included a quote from someone that had clearly touched her, and sent it to share with others, like me. While I believe there were several different ones, the one I got kinda shocked me. It was so perfect. It was definitely one that had I seen before, you better believe it would've been in a post before this. But, I believe God shows us things in just the right time and right when we need them the most.
It reminded me of the Elizabeth Kubler quote I've posted before about how when darkness falls, it's the light that within us that really shines through. The one Hilarie sent had the same effect on me, but opened my eyes to the fact that without the people that inspire us, there would be no light to shine.
Albert Schweitzer, the man behind the outstanding quote, was a pretty miraculous person as well. He established a missionary hospital in Africa and won the Nobel Prize for his devotion to helping others. Finally, here is the quote that inspired this post, as well as many of my next projects in class.

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.”
-Albert Schweitzer

Thank you Southern Gothic for your generosity and inspiration and thank you Hilarie for your heart and dedication. My light shines brighter now. (and my cheesy factor has gone through the roof ;) )

  4. I love quotes too, just because they express what we are feeling but someone else has already thought of a "flowery" way to say it long before me.. makes me feel connected to that person even though we have never met!
